March of the Abolitionist

On the 24th Feb 1807 the Slave Trade Act was passed in Parliament, abolishing slavery through the British Empire. David Pott and The Lifeline Expedition will undertake a walk from Hull to London and then from London to Bristol, up to Liverpool and then back to London, raising awareness of both the Slave Trade in the 1700s and today’s slave trade.

The walkers will arrive from Runcorn on 23rd June and leave for Warrington on the 29th June, travelling to Glasgow for a couple of days that week. The walk is a very graphic procession of participants shackled in yokes and chains as the slaves themselves were. Further detail of events will be posted nearer the time.

Next Wave

‘New Wave’ is a 41m sailing ship which YWAM England is purchasing to be used for training, outreach, evangelism and charter by interested groups. Next summer it will come to Liverpool as part of the ‘March of the Abolitionists’. She will take part in the Maritime Heritage Event at the Albert Dock on the 15th June and will be here for a couple of weeks with a resident DTS. During her time here there will be various events taking place, further news to follow.

As the ‘New Wave’ vision was presented there was a growing sense with the YWAM Liverpool team that Liverpool should be the ‘home port’ where the city ‘adopts’ the vessel and crew. We believe there could be something significant between the Next Wave, Liverpool’s maritime heritage and the nations. Currently we are meeting with church and civic leaders to explore what this might look like so when New Wave is in Liverpool next June we can have an official naming and adoption ceremony.

Please join us in prayer about this project, it both exciting and daunting as we seek the favour and direction of the Lord about the Next Wave.
